This evening of performance will present five variations derived from Channa Horwitz’s iconic composition, “Sonakinetography #3″. Horwitz’s visual philosophy uses deductive logic drawn from a need to control time: one inch equals one beat or pulse in the time. From this, the artist has created, over the past 50 years, a unique language of compositions that depict rhythm and motion visually. These compositions, or “Sonakinetography”, have become a fertile ground for various types of interpretation, through music, dance and beyond. For one evening only, choreographer Ellen Davis, lighting director Brian Bostwick, percussionists Scott Higgins and Corey Fogel, and pianist Maria Moraru have collaborated with the artist to present an evening of dance and music exploring Horwitz’s “Sonakinetography #3″ across mediums and space at the Annenberg Community Beach House.

The theory behind my work is that if structure plays out long enough, it will appear to be chance. It won‘t be chance, it will only appear to be chance. My life flows as all things in the universe flow, in a cyclical or circular manner. It is as in Lobachevskian geometry, the continuum meets itself in space. The beginning and ending are only one step away from each other. There is no beginning and ending … in the universe. To live for all time, is to live now. My life‘s duration is all time…

- Channa Horwitz
